They charge what?!

Mike had the day off today and while we were supposed to use today as a "date day" we used it to run some errands and check out child development centers in the area for Noah.

With the new baby, I haven't had the time to really spend with Noah, so I figure I'd check some places out.

Keep in mind I have NO idea what the cost of daycare is nowadays, so these prices seemed pretty high to me, especially since I'm only looking for something a couple days a week for a couple hours.

All the places we looked at didn't offer part time. You paid for a full week whether or not you dropped your kid off M-F. The Child Development Center on base was my favorite. They run an awesome program. They charge according to a "sliding scale," which basically means according to your yearly income. For us, that meant $234 every 2 weeks. Gah.

The other places were the okay and charged just as much. $115/week at one place, $100 at another. Sigh. This is discouraging because before we moved to FL I had plans to enroll Noah in the program at Greenbrier Christian Academy, which was part-time and only $225/month. The Mother's Day Out programs in Virginia Beach start at $190/month for part-time. These are all excellent programs and so affordable!

I've decided to put school on the backburner while we're in FL. We only plan on being here until next summer, and then I'll look into schools at our new location. For now, I've purchased a preschool curriculum for 2-6 year olds and have decided to teach Noah his basics at home. I need to get organized, and plan a schedule first...I'd like to start "school" on July 1st...I'll let you know how it goes...

Haha! Good luck and DO keep us updated! How old is Noah now? Seeing the prices... makes you want to take in an extra kid, doesn't it...?

Aww. I'm bummed that the CDC didn't have a part-time program for you all. They really are a great facility. But, I'm glad you found an alternative with homeschooling. Maybe you can find a homeschooling group and get together with them once a week for playdates, etc.

PS> What homeschool program did you buy and where'd you get it? I think I'd like to start C on a program this summer, too. She thrives when there's routine and structure to her day...She is definitely her daddy's daughter! LOL
