We were in the market for a new vacuum cleaner because our trusty, 15-year-old Oreck that we inherited from my parents was on its last leg. I thought about getting another Oreck but I needed a vacuum that had the capability to clean both floors and carpets since our potential living situation in Japan would involve wall-to-wall floors, and I was likely to purchase area rugs to compensate for the fact that there would not be any carpet. I knew Dirt Devils and Bissells were running about $200 and from my experience, the life on them was not very long. I figured I'd spend the extra money for a vacuum with all the functions we needed, as well as a long life. We purchased the Dyson DC14 All Floors Bagless Upright Vacuum.
While it still stings to know how much we spent on it, price aside, its an awesome vacuum! It picks up EVERYTHING...we attempted to run the vacuum over our sofas without the attachments and it nearly sucked the couch cushions right up. :P lol.
So if you're in the market for a new vacuum, I highly recommend the Dyson. :)
