The P90X Challenge...Bring It.

Ok, so Mike and I have had the P90X dvd set for almost 2 years...yes TWO years, and we had yet to start it...until last night. We decided June 1st would be the Day 1 of P90X and June 2nd would be Day 1 of our "lifetsyle change."

Mike and I have always been gym rats...when we first got "real" jobs and when we were first married, we'd get home from a long day's work and head over to the gym. On Friday nights, before going out, we'd make sure we hit the gym first. Working out was the easy part for us. Diet was another story. Poor diet and 2 pregnancies got ME to where I am now: a big, fat piece of blubber. :P

Anyway, we did P90X for the first time last night and I had mixed feelings about it. It was hard...very challenging. A lot of push-ups and pull-ups (which I simulated with free weights...I need to attach my resistance bands to the door for future workouts) BUT I only burned 175 calories in an hour. That was disappointing for me. After thinking about it though, the program is set up as separate strength and cardio days, and the workout we did last night (chest & back) was purely strength training. Sooooo, I haven't lost all hope. Tonight is the Plyometrics workout, described as an "explosive jumping cardio routine proven to dramatically improve athletic performance." I'm sure that one will kick my bootay. I'm not even sure if I should go for a run today...we shall see.

Now, as for our lifestyle change...we decided that working out as much as we do is pointless if we continue to fill our bodies with junk. We hit up Publix, a regional supermarket chain exclusive to the South, that is probably the closest thing we have to Trader Joes or Whole Foods. We bought oats, Greek yogurt, granola, fresh fruit (soooo much more fresh than Walmart!), etc. They also had some items I was looking for: almond butter and almond milk, so I was quite excited. I've been reading up on the Eat-Clean Diet, and I would slowly like to move toward that. Soooo...we're really going to try this. We'll see how it goes...

I wanna try this again. I did it 5+ years ago with a group of ladies but didn't get to finish because of a PCS. :( Can't wait to hear more about your P90X adventures.
